Adolescence is a challenging stage for most young people — but for care-experienced teenagers, the struggles are often magnified by trauma, identity questions, and the pull of birth family connections.

This two-day course, led by Rachel Gillett, offers parents and carers practical tools for staying relational, supportive, and resilient during these years. You’ll gain insights into teenage brain development, strategies for supporting education and mental health, and guidance on maintaining healthy boundaries while encouraging independence.

Meet the instructor

Rachel Gillett

Rachel Gillett has lived experience of adoption, including as a single and transracial adopter.

Rachel has also worked with Citizens Advice and family support organisations, gaining extensive experience in groupwork with parents and children. For the past 15 years, she has been a full-time trainer and consultant, delivering over 300 courses to more than 5,000 participants.

Rachel holds an MA in Therapeutic Fostering and Adoption and is both a Therapeutic Life Story Worker and a Non-Violent Resistance practitioner.
